Daisy Finer

Daisy currently lives in Chelsea, London, but claims her head is always somewhere else. “I was lucky to grow up with parents who adored traveling and wanted to share their experiences with me and my three brothers,” she says. “Now I’m hooked and get itchy feet if I stay still too long.” Fortunately, she lives in Europe. During a year she took off before going to college, Daisy lived in Florence for a month and then backpacked through Eastern Europe bouncing from one cheap youth hostel to the next. She comments: “I’m glad I did it then as my tastes are somewhat more lavish now. I love nothing more than a good hotel—who doesn’t? They mark the pinnacle of civilization.”
Favorite Hotels: “Soneva Fushi in the Maldives for the ultimate fly-flop fantasy, Umaid Bhawan in Jodphur, India, for atmosphere, and the Four Seasons in Milan for sheer decadence. This is not to say that everywhere I visit need be all-singing, all-dancing. It’s about the experience, not the size of the plasma screen.”
Most Memorable Destinations: “Two of my favorite places are India and Morocco, not for the hotels (good as they are) but for an exotic, spiritual insight into a way of life utterly different from our own. Not to mention the shopping. The most gobsmackingly awesome holiday I’ve been on has to be my honeymoon, organized as a surprise by my husband. We rode on the top of elephants through the bush in Botswana, their huge ears flapping back against our ankles, slept outside under a vast blanket of stars in the peace of the Kalahari, bathed in an open-sided room with 360 degree views of a valley filled with Baobab trees and had a picnic on a deserted island in Mozambique, which literally disappeared when the tide came in. It was the stuff of dreams. When I’m stuck in city traffic, I think about those monumental horizons and imagine I am there.”
Most Overrated Hotel: “Burj Al Arab in Dubai—it’s also the most hideous.”
Favorite Destination for Food: “Absolutely anywhere in Italy and, in particular, Milan where I go every year. I also think Barcelona has the best restaraunts in Europe. You can feast on traditional seafood and paella one night, and designer tapas and haute cuisine the next. I also adore Indian food and it is encouraging that so many good, safe restaurants are now emerging.”
