In October 2006, the Berlin provincial senate approved round-the-clock shopping hours Monday through Saturday (before that, most places closed by 6 p.m.). Still, don’t expect 24-hour shopping. Hours are determined by individual shop owners; in East Berlin, expect stores to open at noon and close around 8 p.m.

In West Berlin, the international fashion houses from Burberry and Chanel to Gucci and Sonya Rykiel are represented. Head to the end of the Ku’damm, between Bleibtreustraße and Olivaer Platz. For the real discoveries, however, go to East Berlin, to Mitte’s Hackesche Höfe neighborhood.
