Grand

This 205-room property, which opened in 1870, is often cited as one of the city’s top hotels, but during a recent visit, the Grand’s crowded lobby felt less elegant than those at the Imperial and the Sacher. Yet the location—along the Ring boulevard, within walking distance of the Albertina and the State Opera —is attractive; and the guest rooms, with silk-covered walls, polished wood furniture and large marble-clad bathrooms, are stately enough. Rooms from $590.

WHO SHOULD STAY: One of Vienna’s largest five-stars, the Grand is a good choice for families and friends traveling together (many rooms connect). It’s also popular with business travelers.

WHAT’S NEARBY: The State Opera and the start of the Kärtnerstrasse are less than a five-minute walk, as is one of the main tram and subway hubs. The Stephansdom is a fifteen-minute walk.
