NOTE: Before traveling to Budapest, I was told by several people that the euro is readily accepted in Hungary; upon arrival, I was happy to have brought along Hungarian forint because the euro is, in fact, rarely accepted. Hungarians are proud of their currency and are in no rush to trade it in. The Matthias Church even had a sign by the entrance that said, “Please don’t pay with euro.” Be sure to exchange money before your trip.
