Destination: Bora Bora

Air Tahiti Nui is the main carrier to Tahiti from both Europe and the United States. It offers a number of nonstop flights from Los Angeles every week and has announced service from New York this winter, with one stop in Los Angeles. Nearly every visitor will land in Tahiti’s capital, Papeete, about eight hours from L.A., before traveling on to Bora Bora, which is 160 miles northeast of Tahiti, on the 50-minute commuter flight offered by Air Tahiti. The popular concept that Tahiti is at the ends of the Earth is a source of frustration to the Tahitian Tourist Board. In fact, the island isn’t much farther from the continental United States than Hawaii. And once you get there, commuter flights to the outer islands run regularly and at affordable prices.
