Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort & Spa

I hesitate to call any resort where the least expensive room is $600 a value, but on Bora Bora, this really is a bargain. Located on 17 waterfront acres on Motu Tevairoa, which faces Bora Bora, the Pearl has 80 bungalows, or fales, including 20 garden suites, 10 beach suites and 50 over-water fales. The latter are the most coveted, at 570 square feet each; made of local woods, such as bamboo and palm; and having private sundecks and outdoor showers. The tops of the glass coffee tables slide open to reveal the ocean so that guests may feed the fish below. The Manea Spa, which debuted in April 2006, is set in a tropical garden under thatch-roofed pavilions on stilts over a lake. The eight treatment rooms consist of lava stone and open onto private Zen gardens. Rooms from $600. A number of special honeymoon packages are also available that include everything from spa treatments to excursions, such as swimming with turtles.

INDAGARE TIP: Mosquitoes are more prevalent in garden and beach bungalows than in those set over water. If you choose to stay on land, be sure to stock up on repellent.
