If you’re visiting Kaunos, stop for lunch at Safran, one of many colorful restaurants along the river. Start by choosing from an assortment of mezes, including cold eggplant salad, spicy acili ezme (hot-pepper paste with parsley) and yogurt with cucumber. Main courses include kuzu dolma (roast lamb stuffed with rice), flavorful kebabs and grilled fish. Sitting on the patio, snacking on fresh fruit for dessert and finishing with a cup of strong Turkish coffee, you have a perfect view of the impressive ancient Lycian tombs carved into the mountains.
