Great Summertime Walks/Hikes

From long-time visitor Michael Bassermann:

“During the summer, the Engadin valley is a fantastic place for hiking. Some of my favorites—for views and great dining options along the way—include:
  • From St. Moritz to the Landgasthof Meierei, walking along the lake. The food is excellent as are the vistas.
  • Fextal: From Sils Maria about a one-hour walk through a beautiful valley with a good restaurant at the end!
  • Rosatsch Tal: About one and a half hours from Pontresina railway station. Spectacular views into the Bernina mountains and a nice restaurant at the end (save room for the fabulous desert buffet!)
  • Val Varousch: This is part of the National Park, from Zuoz or S-chanf about one hour or less, nice restaurant at the end.”

Summer Drives

From Michael Bassermann, a long-time visitor:

“From the Engadin, it is always nice to take a trip down to Italy. One route to take is driving via Maloja to Chiavenna, where you pass Giacometti’s birthplace, Borgonovo, where you’ll find a museum about the artist. You also pass another museum that’s dedicated to the Engadin’s patissiers and chocolatiers along the way.

Or you can go via Poschiavo-Tirano-Sondrio in the Veltlin, traversing the Bernina pass, which is the more Italian route with very good restaurants in nice old towns.”
