The stunning success of the Tokyo Park Hyatt format—hotel atop office block—has given rise to a slew of hotels designed along similar lines. The Ritz-Carlton is part of a sophisticated new complex, Midtown, that combines corporate offices with an upmarket shopping mall and a food court (a branch of Dean & DeLuca nestles among them. The hotel fine-tuned that head-in-the-clouds formula. The 45th floor houses the warm, convivial reception area and lounge; the 560-square-foot rooms feature fine Frette linen, Bulgari toiletries and fabulous city-wide views. The Ritz also claims to have the nation’s most expensive suite, at $20,000 a night. Its spa will impress fitness buffs, while nightlife aficionados will be pleased that it’s a mere stroll from the busy, bar-lined streets of Roppongi. All in all, this is a great one-stop-shopping hotel, geared to business, perfect for entertaining clients and within striking distance of most major offices and notable sites. Rooms from $670.
