Nhow

The über-cool Nhow, designed by architect Matteo Thun, is a good deal. Located in a former factory in the now up-and-coming neighborhood of Tortona, the 249-room property is an avant-garde showcase of graffiti, contemporary artists and furniture designers from, among others, Dilmos, Milan’s top modern-design gallery. Not surprisingly, it’s become the hotel of choice for design-savvy travelers in Milan for the furniture fair. Rooms from 172 euros (about $273).

The Chedi

The Chedi opened last spring before its glossy spa was complete and service was up to par, but the hotel is finally hitting its stride. While affordable—the design is as Zen sensual as the Bulgari, but a room here costs several hundred euros less—the Chedi is at least a fifteen-minute taxi ride to the city center, near the furniture fair complex. Rooms from 280 euros (about $314).
