You could spend more than a day just exploring the Golden Rectangle and its designer boutique–lined streets: Via Monte Napoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Borgospesso, and Via Sant’Andrea. Here you’ll find sleek flagships—from Prada and Missoni to Gucci and Roberto Cavalli—along with flocks of super-rich Russians and Middle Eastern women on multi-thousand-euro shopping sprees. Giorgio Armani has his own little universe on Via Manzoni, ranging from Emporio Armani to Armani Casa and Armani Books—there’s even a Nobu and Giorgio Armani’s Privé, a nightclub. Don’t miss the Viktor & Rolf store on Via Sant’Andrea by architect Siebe Tettero: he designed it upside down to flip perspectives.

On the edges of the rectangle, check out lesser-known shops such as the stylish, modern menswear shop Fabio Inghirami and the luxurious knitwear boutique Brusadelli, both on Via Manzoni.

If the exchange rate is holding you back, do as the locals do and shop at the city’s fashion discount houses, which offer designer pieces at 50 to 70 percent off. Two great examples: Il Salvagente and Dmagazine Outlet.
