St. Luke in the Fields

I always tell out-of-town friends visiting the area to pay a visit to St. Luke in the Fields, in the West Village. Originally built in 1822, when the area was a village on the outskirts of the city, the austere Federalist-style church is the third oldest in Manhattan, and once bordered the waterfront. Its parish garden is one of the city’s most idyllic small parks—a must-visit in the spring.
