Bliss
The reason that people will wait up to six weeks for an appointment at a Bliss spa is because the experience really does make you glow. Bliss 57 is the newest location in the chain that was born in Soho in 1996 and has expanded to the west coast and London. Their innovative facials include “the Thinny Thin Chin Treatment” ($65) and the almost two-hour “Hangover Herbie,” ($215) a recuperative, herbal-based cure. All locations have hip, healing touches like bluesy music and complimentary brownies. You can get everything from manicures and massages to Brazilian bikini waxes and browse their incredible collection of beauty products and tools. Open seven days a week.
Cornelia Day Spa
I considered day spas souped-up hair salons until I visited Cornelia Day Spa. The Fifth Avenue retreat occupies the top two floors of the Ferragamo building on the corner of 52nd Street. In addition to great services and treatment rooms, it has a rooftop café and lounge area with chaises longues and city views that is only open to spa visitors. The relaxation room has chaises with cashmere throws, appealing books and magazines and an array of juices and teas. Most impressive were the extra touches: reclining chairs that massage your back while your hair is rinsed; lunch served on nice china and leather trays; and the bottle of nail polish you choose for your manicure or pedicure is yours to keep. Open seven days a week.
