“People come to Verbier because they’re nuts about skiing,” says Louis Hall, a twenty-five-year-old English ski instructor (who moonlights in a band that performs at Richard Branson’s deluxe chalet, The Lodge, Verbier). Verbier, which isn’t suited to beginners, has easily accessible off-piste skiing as well as “itinerary runs,” which are like beginner off-piste runs and offer the back-country experience without the danger. Be aware that Verbier is not a ski-in-ski-out resort.
Who Should Go: Verbier is for passionate advanced skiers, as well as for families and groups of friends who want to hole up in some of Switzerland’s best private chalets (see Where to Stay).
