Napa River Inn
Beth Nickel of Far Niente winery commends the recent restoration of this onetime riverfront mill, which served Napa for over 100 years and stored fertilizer and supplies for the Valley’s growing vineyard business. Its wharf was home to Captain Albert Hatt’s personal schooner and small fleet of shipping steamships, which connected Napa to greater regions. Now, it’s a 66-room hotel with modern amenities and (actually impressive) green initiative program, including its river cleanup project, locally-sourced bath products, regular recycling, and construction using bricks made from the clay of the Napa River. In the lobby, don’t miss a handwritten inscription found beneath the mill’s original floorboard, made in 1885.
