Destination: St.-Tropez

Overview Text Size A A A

When it comes to eating out, how you look and whom you see are at least as important as quality of the food, which, luckily, is consistently excellent. The proper St.-Tropez lunch must be had at a restaurant on one of the private beaches. You can book a table anytime from noon to 4 p.m. Particularly at such iconic places as Club 55, the dress code is resort chic—don’t think about showing up in a bathing suit. The men change into half-buttoned linen shirts and pants. Baseball caps and Panama hats are big, as are Tod’s driving shoes. Women opt for short, clingy summer dresses or flowing linen skirts with the perfect low-cut white T-shirt. Dinner never begins before 8 p.m., but the crowds really start to hit the restaurants around 9 p.m. Evening wear is fashionable but never formal (blazers are not necessary, even in the finest restaurants).
