Hotel Epi Plage
Hidden in the dunes next to trendy Nikki beach sounds like an unlikely place for a restful retreat, but that’s just what Epi Plage is. Comprising ten pale-yellow wooden bungalows grouped around two pools, the property has an impeccable garden with an emerald lawn and flowery shrubs. Just beyond are the sea and a sandy beach. Owners Shahla Mauch-Deyhim and her husband, Alejandro Diehl, took over Epi Plage thirty-six years ago, creating an oasis of boho chic. The place has a comfortable, funky charm: ceilings with exposed wood beams, antique and rattan furniture and Persian rugs. Some of the newly renovated bathrooms have open marble showers, and all are stocked with fragrant L’Occitane products. Room 2 is particularly pretty, with Asian decor and a modern bathroom; room 7 has a nautical feel with a blue-and-white-striped design; and room 5 is one of the largest bungalows, with a four-poster, a marble-clad bathroom and a corner for a day bed.
No matter the bungalow, what I love most about Epi Plage are the luxury of tumbling out of bed and onto the beach, starry nights by the sea and never having to dress up. Other high points include two swimming pools (one for serious lap swimming); the small spa, whose massages and herbal beauty treatments utilize Maurice Messegué products; and the well-equipped gym, which offers Pilates and yoga classes. Rooms from $405.
