Blue Palace

Travelers who don’t mind sacrificing a sandy beach for dramatic views should consider Blue Palace, the Starwood Luxury Collection property located a short drive from Elounda. Although by no means a boutique hotel – there are 251 rooms – its rooms are spread across the mountainside, offering a more intimate feeling than the expansive grounds of Elounda Bay and Elounda Beach. The downside to staying at Blue Palace is its lack of a beach. The beach club sits by the sea and has a lovely infinity-edge pool, cushioned lounges and views of Spinalonga Island, but families are probably better off at one of the other properties. Couples should splurge on an Island Suite, the only accommodations with truly private pools. Athletic types will appreciate the mountaintop tennis courts, extensive water sports, fully-equipped fitness center and yoga classes.
