Curve
With her skill at providing tomorrow’s fashion trends to today’s tastemakers, owner and buyer Nevena Borissova keeps Curve’s selection one step ahead. Celebrating over a decade of style in L.A. and recently opening up shop in Soho, the bicoastal boutiques (with an e-commerce site coming soon) deliver an eclectic mix of luxury and sportswear options, stocking everything from couture Viktor & Rolf jackets to popular 7 For All Mankind jeans. Since the selection tends toward the avant-garde and fashion-forward, it is helpful that the stores’ personnel act as stylists—showing you how to pair a Samantha Treacy boxy blouse with Bruno Pieters neutral cuffed shorts or Blur’s draped leather jacket with a 16-strand copper and crystal necklace by T. Ciya. Going the extra distance, Curve offers a handful of special services such as trend forecasting, wardrobe maintenance (you know, pair this with that and you’re instantly au courrant) and personal shopping.
Kitson
There may not be a velvet rope or red carpet, but Robertson’s Kitson boutiques attract more celebrities than some of L.A.’s hottest clubs. What started nearly six years ago as a single location stocked with the latest and greatest in everything but the kitchen sink (tees, denim, footwear, jewelry, books, trinkets, candles, eyewear … you want it? They got it!) has now turned into a Kitson kingdom with four different properties on Robertson. The original still stocks tons of up-to-the-minute tees, jewelry, tchotchkes and clothing (including a new line from the queen of Kitson herself, Paris Hilton) in easily accessible piles and containers. Down the street, Kitson Men caters to the fashionable male, while next-door neighbor Kitson Studio (newly opened) features an expanded accessories and footwear selection (including upscale brands like Jean-Michel Cazabat and Botkier) and higher-end items, like dresses by Jill Stuart and Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. Kitson Kids (across the street from the original) also offers goods for trendy toddlers, like crystal-studded Converse kicks and a selection of popular denim brands in pint-sized versions. Kitson even offers its own branded products, such as graffiti-inspired sneakers, logo-baring hoodies and fitted cotton tees. For those who want to get Kitson flavor in their own hometown (available to international customers, too!) or for those don’t want to brave the paparazzi, an online boutique features many of the items found in stores, as well as special web-exclusive sales on products like totes, wallets and tees.
Madison
Mad for Matthew Williamson? Craving Catherine Malandrino? Yearning for Ya-Ya? Madison’s four Los Angeles-based locations (and corresponding e-commerce site) keep Tinseltown’s trendsetters decked out in the finest designers. Combining notice-me fashions from smaller insider fave brands (Diab’less, Vanessa Bruno and Thread Social) with accessories from big-name fashion houses (Dolce & Gabbana, YSL and Viktor & Rolf), Madison’s collection is a gold mine for any fashion addict. Borrowing successful techniques from larger department stores, the merchandise is separated by category (coats in one section, sweaters in another) as if they were mini departments, and marquee-name designers are clearly labeled, which makes it easy if you’re on the hunt for a certain label. Why spend your time searching for clothes when you could be out on the town wearing them?
