There’s no dearth in hotels in Singapore, as every major brand has one, if not more, outposts here. Choosing where to be based depends on what your objective in the city is. The waterfront marina area has been massively developed and now features a lovely promenade. Tons of waterfront restaurants and bars have opened alongside it, and even though the massive Marina Bay Sands is considered a design eyesore by some, it somehow anchors and frames the area across the bay. The hotels by the water, including the Raffles, Fullerton, Fullerton Bay and Ritz-Carlton, have all benefitted from the development and are now some of the most coveted in the city.
The classics of Orchard Road, the shopping thoroughfare deeper in the city, also get consistently good reviews (they include the Four Seasons, Shangri-La and Mandarin Oriental). Those seeking more of a resort-like ambience should check into the very stylish Capella on Sentosa Island, which is only a 15-minute taxi ride from downtown Singapore but feels worlds removed.
