Itinerary for Art and Food Lovers
The south of France has been a haven and inspiration for great artists for more than a century and exploring its collection of small museums, which are scattered in various towns, and stopping at wonderful restaurants (some of which like La Colombe d’Or Les Bacchanales also display art collections) make for fun days of discovery for art and food lovers.
For lovers of art and food, it is easy to design days around visits to some of the small museum gems on the Côte d’Azur and memorable meals nearby. Here are some good geographical pairings:
Fondation Maeght and the Matisse Chapel in Vence with lunch or dinner before or after at La Colombe d’Or, Le Saint Paul or Le Tilleul in St. Paul de Vence or at Les Bacchanales in Vence.
The Jean Cocteau Museums in Menton with lunch or dinner before or after at Mirazur in Menton or at Alain Ducasse’s Louis XV in Monte Carlo or at La Chèvre d’Or or Cap Estel in Eze.
Matisse Museum in Nice and lunch or dinner at La Reserve or Kei’s Passion or Bistro St. Antoine.
Bonnard Museum in Le Cannet and lunch or dinner at one of Michelin-star chef Bruno Oger’s restaurants: either his Bistrot de l’Ange or gastronomic temple La Villa Archange in Le Cannet.
Picasso Museum in Antibes and lunch or dinner at Le Figuier de Saint Esprit or L’Armoise.
Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer and Le Bistrot de la Marine in Cagnes-Sur-Mer.
Fernand Leger Museum in Biot and Villa Kerylos in Beaulieu and Villa Ephrussi on Cap Ferrat and then a meal at La Chèvre d’Or or Cap Estel in Eze or at the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat.
