2010 saw the opening of the Conventino building, an exclusive twenty-one-room enclave at the opposing end of the Bauer Palladio’s expansive gardens. With a more organic and contemporary aesthetic, rooms are decorated in fresh pastel colors and are outfitted with textured wallpaper, sisal rugs, blond woods and bamboo furniture. Accommodations on the ground floor have high ceilings and some offer private patios with sun loungers. The Conventino is a go-to for a truly relaxing escape featuring an utterly surprising and ultra-stylish design.
Situated in a palazzo that was formerly an embassy, this hotel in the Cannaregio neighborhood is one of my favorites in Venice. The property boasts a true rarity in this city: a luxurious green garden stretching out to the lagoon. After you’ve walked the length of Venice, the 18th-century oasis is pure heaven. The main lobby has original marble floors, stucco work and Murano chandeliers. The best accommodations face the garden; ask for one of the Junior Suites on the second floor, which is located off a grand entry hall. The newly created Presidential Suite occupies a separate guesthouse in the garden. Here you have complete privacy and breathtaking views out over the lagoon toward San Michele. Rooms from $537.
