Il Palazetto Wine Bar

The al fresco wine bar on the fifth floor of Il Palazetto hotel (the sister property of the Hotel Hassler) has a lofty location at the top of the Spanish Steps, with perfect people-watching views of the bustling staircase. Wine and cocktails are priced according to this coveted location, but if you’re willing to splurge, it’s a memorable perch for a sunset apritivo.

Summer: Rooftop Bars/Lounges

Petulia Melideo, of Context Travel, is based between Rome and Paris. In the eternal city, she recommends: ” Hotel Es (Via Filippo Turati 171; 39-06-444-841)has a fantastic roof terrace bar with swimming pool. From here you can get a neo-realistic view on the train station and the beautiful Porta Maggiore. My other favorites are the rooftops at Hotel Raphael (Largo Febo, 2; 39-06-682-831), which is small and more quaint, and has a great location right in the center of the city, by Piazza Navona. The terrace at the Musei Capitolini (Piazza del Campidoglio 1) is romantic and the one at Hotel 47 (Via Petroselli 47, 39-06-678-7816) overlooks the Tiber. The new Palazzo delle Esposizioni (Via Nazionale 194; 39-06-399-675-00) also has a great bar overlooking the Quirinale and surrounding area.”
