Bar & Boeuf
Situated in the Sporting Club complex, above swank disco Jimmy’z, Alain Ducasse’s stylish seaside bar/bistro—think Starck-designed furniture and an open-plan kitchen—serves world cuisine with an exotic flair. The menu offers only bar (French for sea bass) and beef, exquisitely prepared, with unusual combinations of ingredients, in six ways, including raw, steamed, spit roasted and grilled. The outdoor terrace looks out on a dreamily lit garden and lagoon with chirping frogs. It’s a great spot for a light meal, dessert or a just a glass of wine from its outstanding international selection. Open mid-May through mid-September.
Le Café de Paris
No one leaves the principality without visiting this renowned Belle Époque brasserie on the Place du Casino. The sprawling outdoor terrace, where both Monegasques and gaggles of tourists soak up the sun while sipping pricey espressos, is great for watching the beau monde cruise by in snazzy sports cars. The classic bistro menu offers a wide selection of Mediterranean dishes, including shellfish, in season, and a reliably good plat du jour, listed on the chalkboard. Try the crêpes Suzette, a delicacy inadvertently invented here in the 1900s when one of chef Auguste Escoffier’s desserts caught fire.
