Store hours reflect the relaxed, late-night traditions of the island, so if you head into Ibiza town at noon, you will find almost everything shuttered. Many boutiques don’t open until 4 or 5 p.m., but then they stay open until midnight. For men and women who love a beachy, resort kind of fashion, Ibiza is a rare shopping paradise. If you hit the hippie market on Saturday morning, you may find, as a friend of mine did last summer, a flowing cotton dress with a geometric print that would fly off the racks at Barneys if it ever made it into mass production. Since it was a local designer’s creation, however, only a handful were made and my friend got to rack up compliments on her unique find all summer. A few hours’ browsing in Ibiza town is also a must. The boutiques offer stylish summer clothes, and it’s lovely to stroll the cobblestoned streets past whitewashed buildings with their blue shutters and pots of flowing geraniums or to sit in one of the outdoor cafés and enjoy the scene.
