Tango

Tip from Patrizia Chen.

“When in BA people like to see tango shows, but it’s also wonderful to go to the milongas, where the everyday tango is danced. And every day there is a different milonga! La Confiteria Ideal (www.confiteriaideal.com), Salon Canning (Scalabrini Ortiz 1331, Palermo Viejo; 54-11-4832-6753), Porteño y Bailarin (www.porteybailarin.com), just to name a few. In these places one can admire the stars mingling with the mere mortals, dancing with their friends a few feet (literally!) away from you!”

For more recommendations on where to see and dance tango, see Tango and Milonga in Nightlife.

Teatro Colón

A gem of a theater, this historic jewel box opened in 1904, and remains a symbol of the city’s love of high culture. Throughout the season, you can see ballets, operas, recitals and concerts in the domed auditorium. The hour-long guided tour is highly recommended and includes the Golden Hall and the costume department, where you can glimpse more than 20,000 pairs of shoes as well as wigs and costumes that have been worn by Plácido Domingo. For guided tours, call 54 (11) 4378-7132.
