The following are some of the city’s best places to see and learn tango and milonga:
Bar El Chino (Beazley 3566, Pompeya; 54 (11) 4911-0215) Pompeyo is the birthplace of tango and Porteños come to Bar El Chino for the music and dancing.
La Marshall (Yatay 961, Almagro; 54 (11) 4774-5470/54 (11) 5406-9784) A forerunner for BA’s gay milonga spots, La Marshall is more an event than a club and is open to anyone who wants to dance (or learn how to). On Wednesdays, the establishment runs a class, followed by a show and an excursion to a salsa club.
Confiteria Ideal (Suipacha 380, Microcentro; 54 (11) 5265-8069/ 54 (11)4328-7750) A relatively mainstream but still authentic tango spot.
