Destination: Iles d’Hyères

Tips Text Size A A A

Porquerolles: Cars and camping are prohibited on Porquerolles (use of vehicles is limited to shopkeepers and full-time residents). And as forest fires are the island’s biggest worry, smoking is also prohibited, except in the village.

Port-Cros: Pick up a map of the island’s spectacular trails at the minuscule village (a couple of cafés, a souvenir shop, a tiny grocery) and plan to walk, as bicycles are forbidden (in addition to smoking, dogs, hunting, picking flowers, and spearfishing). But there are nearly nineteen miles of hiking paths to explore, all of them scented with broom, myrtle, rosemary, wild lavender and sage, and more than 114 species of birds. For snorkeling fans, the clear waters are underwater parks teeming with rare marine life.
