Loharu House

Fiona Caulfield, the author of the Love India travel guide series, recommends:

“An elegant guesthouse that is famed for its gracious hospitality. Loharu House is the Jaipur residence of Begum Fauzia Ahmad Khan of Loharu who is a gracious hostess and presides over fabulous meals in the formal dining room. The house is set amidst beautifully landscaped gardens and has three suites and 11 rooms. My favorite was suite 10 with lovely garden views, a separate dressing room and a great bathtub. room 9 had red and white décor and was also charming. the two cottages at the rear of the garden are very private and relaxing.”

Shahar Palace Hotel

Fiona Caulfield, the author of the Love India travel guide series, recommends:

“My home in Jaipur. this 12-room guesthouse is an oasis of calm in the bustle of Jaipur and is owned by colonel Virendra Singh (retired) and his charming wife Nalini, who are members of the royal family of Shahar, and this 80-year old property is the colonels’ ancestral home. together with their polo-playing son, Fateh, the friendly staff and much loved dog, Buddy, guests are treated as family and many are regular visitors. Come here for a truly relaxed and enjoyable experience. All of the rooms have sit outs on the veranda overlooking the lush garden with mature trees, which are a magnet for birdlife, including peacocks, sunbirds, bee eaters and golden orioles!”
