Destination: Miami

Overview Text Size A A A

In the 1980s, not long after Miami Vice made the South Florida city synonymous with danger laced with glamour, Bruce Weber shot an ad for Calvin Klein’s Obsession perfume atop Ocean Drive’s Breakwater Hotel, piquing the interest of photographers and supermodels from around the world. By the 1990s the city’s real estate, modeling and tourism industries were booming, satisfying the public’s unquenchable fascination with the thirty-mile-long stretch of Atlantic waterfront. If Miami has not entirely shed its reputation as a debauched beach town over the past decade, it has surely evolved, gaining the city and its environs a second identity as a chic cultural destination.
