You’ll have the best weather if you travel between December and May. Bear in mind, though, that the top resorts book months in advance for the winter holiday season and the week before Easter (Semana Santa). July and August can be unbearably hot and humid, but many destinations offer special rates during this time. If you plan to just lounge on the beach, take advantage of the summer deals. But if you want to explore and sightsee, it’s better to go during the winter. Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30 (August through October are the peak months). The good news is that the Caribbean coast of Mexico is well prepared for these storms and handles them efficiently: in 2005, Hurricane Wilma devastated much of the peninsula, but electricity was restored within a matter of days.
