Destination: Jumby Bay
Overview Text Size A A A
The only, somewhat surprising, misstep during my recent visit to Jumby was the uneven food—a key component considering you’re staying at an inclusive island resort where you’re likely to eat all your meals. The breakfast and lunch buffets were hit-or-miss, and the fairly predictable lunch menu didn’t change once during a four-day visit. More inspired was the beachside White Night barbecue, with freshly prepared seafood, as well as dinner at the Estate House, a restored 230-year-old colonial manor. On my last day, a candid conversation with charming new chef Erik Gremmer suggested that big changes are in the imminent future of Jumby’s dining program (the Dutch-born Gremmer arrived in September after a stint in the Maldives at the acclaimed Soneva Gili resort). It’s to be hoped Gremmer will implement creative, elevated menus worthy of Jumby.
