At a Glance

Aspen’s most coveted address, The Little Nell offers a front-row seat to the town’s famously chic ski scene. That preeminence, of course, is partly because of the slopeside hotel’s unbeatable location adjacent to the lift up Aspen Mountain, making for a seamless ski-in/ski-out experience in the winter. It is also due to the hotel’s subdued, stylish interiors (done in various stages by the likes of Alexandra Champalimaud, Holly Hunt and Luis Bustamante). But the main reason The Little Nell has been Aspen’s social hub (and popular with heavy hitters from New York and L.A. since opening in 1989) is because of its commitment to superb, attentive service. A host of friendly door staff, drivers, concierges, waitstaff and other dedicated members of the team are on hand to make guests feel welcome and secure the best reservations in town (which often means at venues right on-property). Since the hotel is owned by Aspen Skiing Company, guests also have exclusive access to one-of- a-kind experiences, including snowcat skiing in winter, as well as off-road adventures, stargazing, fly-fishing and more in summer.

**The Standout:**The après-ski ambience at Ajax Tavern, where it seems all of Aspen ends their last run with Wagyu double cheeseburgers, Champagne and dancing

**Don't Miss:**The new Nest at The Nell, an outdoor patio with firepits and service from The Wine Bar

Review

Aspen’s only Forbes five-star, ski-in/ski-out resort has an enviable location, at the base of Aspen Mountain. Owned and operated by the Aspen Skiing Company, it is the place to be in winter. It’s a good option in summer, as well, in walking distance from all the downtown shops and restaurants. Offering 92 rooms spread over four floors, it has the feel of a boutique hotel with all the services and amenities of something grander.

Interiors are glorious examples of why contemporary sleek design is the perfect backdrop for a serene mountain holiday. Interior design wizard Holly Hunt created custom furniture and a palette of grays and beiges that instantly soothe. The overall effect is that of a chic contemporary New York apartment but with Western touches such as “barn door” closets that slide open and wrought-iron hardware or Wild Horse photographs by Michael Eastman and limited edition prints by artists Caio Fonseca and Robert Kelly. Premium rooms, located on the top floor, have vaulted ceilings and balconies affording views of Aspen Mountain. The most spectacular is the Paepcke Suite, which has a private entrance; its own sitting area, complete with fireplace; and a private terrace overlooking Ajax Tavern and the Gondola Plaza.
