Destination: Brazil: Bahia

Why Go Now Text Size A A A

Brazilians know a lot about sensuality. After all, their country is the land of samba, bossa nova, itsy-bitsy bikinis and Gisele Bündchen. So when I tell you that I discovered some of my all-time favorite hideaways in the place that Brazilians call “the land of happiness,” you should consider making a trip before it’s overrun.

The sexy Sao Paulo-based Fasano brand is on track to build outposts in the villages of Trancoso and Salvador, bringing the first internationally recognized five-star resorts to the region. Overpriced Italian and American resort wear can now be found in little boutiques ringing the main square of the sleepy fishing village of Trancoso. Surely entrepreneurs determined to develop the next great place will follow. When they do, some of the indigenous rhythm and rituals will be replaced by global standards that dilute local color.
