Review
Since its arrival in Barranco, Casa Republica has provided travelers to Lima with a well-priced alternative to Hotel B. Decidedly art-focused and utilizing the bones of an old Republican mansion to great effect, Casa Republica melds contemporary touches with classical crown molding, artfully tiled floors and imposing white columns.
As the former pied-à-terre of a wealthy Liman family, Casa Republica feels more like a private residence than a hotel. The public spaces are frequently filled with guests reading a book in a quiet corner, nursing a pisco sour or enjoying a game of cards outside. It’s sociable, but in a muted, low-key fashion.
With 22 rooms, two dining outlets and a grassy interior courtyard, Casa Republica offers travelers a respite from the frenzied bustle of Lima’s more heavily touristed quarters. Although it’s not especially high-touch, it is a superb value option with warm, engaging service and a chic aesthetic.
Who Should Stay
Do-it-yourself couples or families with teenage children seeking Barranco’s cachet and privacy, without the premium cost of a more full-service property. It would also make for a great group takeover.
