Review
The undeniably cool Paramount House Hotel is located in the charming neighborhood of Surry Hills, about a ten-minute drive from downtown Sydney. Housed in the former headquarters of Paramount Pictures Studios, the boutique property has an artistic vibe, with exposed-brick walls, wood beamed ceilings and vintage gold furnishings in its 29 rooms.
A haven for local creatives, the Paramout House Hotel is buzzing throughout the day with patrons who socialize or work at its lobby café, Paramount Coffee Project. Come evening, the hotel’s wine bar, Poly, is the place to see-and-be-seen. Run by the team behind of one Sydney’s most revered restaurants, Ester, the casual restaurant has a short menu of delicious shareable plates. Rounding out the amenities is the Art Deco cinema, Golden Age Cinema & Bar, which airs new and classic films and has a speakeasy-style bar for pre- or post-movie imbibing. Guests who want to get a bit of exercise during their stay will appreciate the Paramount Recreation Club, the top-floor fitness studio that offers daily classes including boxing and Pilates. The club also has a rooftop café that serves coffee and light, healthful cuisine and treatment rooms for massages.
Who Should Stay
Younger travelers to Sydney or those who don’t care about being located on the waterfront will appreciate the cool neighborhood setting of the Paramount.
