Paris Gourmet Market Tour Text Size A A A
Attention all foodies: Context Paris, sister of Context Rome, is organizing a curated trip to Paris’ world-famous Rungis market on December 26. Part of the company’s “out of context” series of lectures and special events, the three-hour tour will be accompanied by Louisa Chu, a former chef at Alain Ducasse’s Plaza Athénée who has extensive experience navigating the miles of meat lockers, fish stalls and fresh vegetables and fruit stands.
Unless you’re affiliated with a restaurant, Rungis is generally closed to the public, so this is a great opportunity for epicureans to get a behind-the-scenes tour of this food Mecca. In addition to giving a participants a history of the market since it was moved here from central Paris in the 1960s, Chu will narrate a walk through Rungis’ stalls, commenting on the ways chefs jockey for positions here to secure the best ingredients, the global reach of the vendors and their wares, and how changes in French cuisine have been shaped by the scope and quality of this market.
The tour kicks off at 5am. Transportation will be provided. For details, contact Context at 888-467-1986 or email paul@contexttravel.com.
