Food Crisis Conference Text Size A A A

In developed countries, the rising cost of food has led to a few inconveniences: organic goods and lavish restaurant dinners, for instance, are no longer so everyday. For those living in war-torn or poverty-stricken areas, the consequences range from violent riots and crime to malnutrition and full-on starvation. On Thursday, June 19th, Christiane Amanpour, CNN’S Chief International Correspondent, will lead a panel discussion to address these more dire food crisis repercussions. Titled FOOD CRISIS: How Rising Prices are Stoking Emergencies from Haiti to Somalia, the conference takes place in New York City at the New School’s Tisch Auditorium, is completely open to the public and includes guest speakers from Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org), an international volunteer organization that provides medical care to countries in need. It kicks off at 7 pm and though no RSVPs are necessary, seating is limited and will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis.
