From Alex Beard, New York
“Our trip with William Lindesay at the Great Wall of China was one of the two or three best things I’ve ever done. I’ve had quite a few adventurous trips over the years, and the weekend with William in the Yao mountains North of Beijing fit all my criteria for a truly memorable excursion. William knows everything about the Wall—its history, its folklore, and the best spots and times of day to visit. I hate tourists- feeling like one, seeing other ones, participating in something which seems superficial. William Lindesay and his trip on the Wall has none of those things. The remoteness of his farm houses, the terrain on which the Wall is constructed, and the grandeur of the landscape and man’s most notable footprint upon it are real, tangible, exotic, and memorable. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. The only restriction potential adventurers should consider is the hiking. It is not mountain climbing by any means, but if you can’t walk a mile uphill, don’t go on this trip.”
