Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti on Egypt Text Size A A A

Since its launch in 1996, the biannual shopping catalog Vivre (www.vivre.com) has bedazzled fashionistas everywhere with its exquisite collection of clothing, accessories and homeware. Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti is the woman behind it. As the company’s founder and CEO, she travels all over the world, scouting out both big-name and lesser-known designers. Below are the style maven’s favorite spots in Cairo.

Favorite hotels:

Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza (1089 Corniche El Nil, Maglis El Shaab, Garden City; 20-(2)-2791-7000; www.fourseasons.com) It has an amazing spa and is well located in Cairo. Do not try and commute to the pyramids, move to the Oberoi Mena House, as traffic can be very bad.

Fairmont Heliopolis (Uruba Street, Heliopolis; 20-(2)-2267-7730; www.fairmont.com) Lovely hotel a bit outside the bustling center of Cairo. Well located and close to the airport.

Intercontinental Cairo Semiramis (Corniche El Nil; 20-(2)-2795-7171; www.ichotelsgroup.com) Literally on the Nile, it is very close to all shopping and the Egyptian museum.

Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheik (1 Four Seasons Boulevard, Sharm El Sheikh, South Sinai; 20-(69)-360-3555; www.fourseasons.com ) Absolutely stunning hillside resort with incredible food, beach, diving and sports.

The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh (Pyramids Road, Giza, Red Sea; 20-(2)-65-3440-777; www.oberoisahlhasheesh.com). Beautiful hotel located in Hurghada, a seaside resort town. Until recently it was a small fishing village that has undergone some changes. Do not miss the bazaar in Dahar.

Favorite restaurants:

Four Corners, Cairo is a great area that has several good restaurants, including the famous Justine’s (a popular hangout for diplomats) and La Piazza, a simple yet delicious Italian restaurant.

Le Pacha (Saray El Gezirah Street; 20-(2)-2735-6730; lepacha.com) Popular for live bands, and a mix of delicious Lebanese and fresh fish.

Charwoods (53 Gamaat El Dowal, Mohandessin) Cozy, very unassuming place that is easy to miss! Menu changes daily and is written on blackboards inside the restaurant. Always have the special.

The Grill at the Intercontinental Cairo Semiramis (Corniche El Nil; 20-(2)-2795-7171; www.ichotelsgroup.com ) One of Cairo’s best restaurants and designed by my friend, Tony Chi! Incredibly dramatic with fantastic cuisine.

Favorite cafés:

Beanos (locations throughout): A chain of cafes in Egypt but it has the BEST coffee anywhere.

Cilantro (locations throughout): Great place to stop for a quick bite or something sweet like the Eis Caffe. It’s an espresso served in a tall glass with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of coffee beans.

Favorite bars/lounge(s:

Pub 28 (28 Shagarat El Dorr Street; 20-(2)-735-9200): The closest thing you get to a neighborhood bar in Cairo!

The Bar at The Four Seasons (Four Seasons Cairo at Nile Plaza): Great views of the Nile, a favorite with locals as well as guests. Ed. Note: It’s literally named The Bar.

Best Beach:

Sharm El Sheik: Crystal clear water, incredible snorkeling & diving.

Favorite museum(s)/gallery:

Mokhtar, Cairo Museum (Tahrir square; 20-(2)-579-6948; www.egyptianmuseum.gov). A hidden gem that contains many of Mokhtar’s less famous works.

Cairo Museum (or the Egyptian Museum): Filled with archaeological finds and the golden treasures of pharaohs. Go to in the late afternoon to avoid the crowds.
