The new surf museum called Cité de l’Océan et du Surf is a must-see for anyone visiting Biarritz. Opened in June 2011, the striking museum was designed by architect (and passionate surfer) Steven Holl in collaboration with Brazilian artist Solange Fabião. It’s organic curved shape was inspired by the motto “under the sky/under the sea.” The museum hosts a slew of exhibitions (some hands-on, making it fin for kids) focusing on the sea and present-day oceanic issues. An outdoor kios caters to surfers. There’s an auditorium for movies. Open daily, 9:30am–12:30pm and 2pm–6pm.
