From Pam Bowman, N.Y.
Where we went: Antigua
Why: We wanted to go somewhere we hadn’t been in the Caribbean that was sophisticated, yet family friendly.
Travelers: Myself, my husband and our 8 yr. old daughter
When: Spring break 2008 – March 19th-25th
Who organized it: After reading about Jumby Bay on Indagare we were intrigued.
Where we stayed: Jumby Bay—privately owned island with resort managaged by Rosewood.
Who’s it right/wrong for: Good for families, and those who want a low key, no frills, relax on the beautiful beach experience. Wrong for those who want trendy, chic, atmosphere and great spa experience or gourmands whose expectations will surely not be met.
What I wish I knew in advance: That the resort was closing after this season for a complete renovation. It was in obvious need of a facelift as well as additional staff training, technology upgrade, a new chef, ect. ect. THERE WAS NO SPA facility on premises, yet they encouraged booking spa treatments in advance.
What to skip: Going this year! Wait for the renovation and a complete review from Indagare or other reliable sources.
What we loved: Easy enough to get to (direct flights from Newark to Antigua) and the natural beauty of the beach and calm, warm sea water. No cars allowed and bike riding was a fun departure from city life.
