Passion Points: Family

You Asked: Italy’s Best Family Hotels Text Size A A A
One of the questions we get asked most frequently by members traveling to Italy is which slam-dunk family resorts are best for a relaxing end to a sightseeing-heavy trip.
Here are five of our favorites, in the countryside, seaside and on two of Italy’s most beautiful islands. For help with planning a trip to Italy, contact our bookings team.
Indagare Mapped Out: Order Indagare’s Mapped Out guides highlighting the best of Venice and Rome (they’re also available for Paris, London and Vienna).
Capri: Quisisana
For families, there’s only one place to stay on this famous island off the Amalfi Coast. The so-called Quisi sits in the center of town, has expansive grounds and several pools and is within walking distance of most restaurants and shops that you’ll want to visit. www.quisisana.com
Forte dei Marmi: Hotel Byron
The Florentine version of the Hamptons, Forte dei Marmi is a lovely seaside escape. Just as stateside, many habitués rent homes; a great hotel option is the Byron, which has a fantastic location, has twenty-nine rooms, and there is a great pool and beach club. www.hotelbyron.net.
Lake Como: Villa d’Este
Overlooking the lake and surrounded by splendid gardens, the Villa d’Este is located in a region that’s perfect for families with older children. Lake Como is ideal for boating, nearby Lake Garda has fabulous windsurfing, and the region has plentiful hiking and biking.
Sardinia: Hotel Pitrizza
Much like Capri, Sardinia is part jet-set scene and part rugged natural wonderland. Families who want to explore this unique destination should be based at the Hotel Pitrizza, a Starwood property that exudes understated glamour. Many of the secluded stone hillside villas come with their own gardens and terraces near the sea. The beach is private.
Tuscany: Castiglion del Bosco
This Ferragamo-owned resort and winery is a favorite with Indagare members. It has twenty-three suites and is located an easy drive from Florence and Rome. Reserve well ahead during peak season. Castiglion del Bosco is particularly known for its long list of activities for children.
