A member asked: My college-age daughter and her friends will be in Barcelona, and I’d like to send them to a great restaurant for lunch. Where would you recommend that would be young and trendy? – F. D., NY

The perfect restaurant for mom and dad isn’t always the ideal place for the teenage set. We set out to find a few options that drew a young, fashionable crowd but also served food that would appeal to less adventurous appetites. Saboroso, a wonderful Barcelona-based concierge service for gourmets, steered us in the right direction.

The first restaurant they suggested was CDLC (Pasaje Marítim 32; www.cdlcbarcelona.com), a beachside eatery popular amongst the city’s beautiful people. The mixed menu features salads, sushi, pastas and some standard tapas, and the 20-something crowd includes the occasional celebrity (including members of Barcelona’s soccer team). Pluses include the gauze-draped daybeds, excellent sea views and a St.-Tropez atmosphere.

Another excellent choices is Bestial (Calle Ramon Trias Fargas 2-4; www.bestialdeltragaluz.com), also situated right on the beach with a fantastic terrace shaded by palm trees. The Italian menu won’t impress a real foodie, but its great location and super chic clientele make this a good pick for travelers whose priority is a happening scene. The restaurant brings a DJ in at night for more of a club atmosphere.

The recently opened Hotel AB Skipper (Avenida del Litoral 10; www.hotelabskipper.com) also could be an option. A great Sunday brunch can be hard to find in Barcelona, but the hotel’s restaurant has substantial offers sweetened by their great sea views.
