My best trip of 2011 was to José Ignacio, Uruguay. We ate ice cream at Freddo, pizza at Pizza Tutta, and rode horses and had BBQs at Estancia Vik.
My favorite hotel is Twin Farms in Vermont because it offers the same exceptional discreet luxury experience, visit after visit.
My favorite new discovery was definitely the Sichuan salt and pepper prawns at China Doll on Finger Wharf in Sydney. We went back twice!
One invaluable lesson I’ve learned while on the road is the value of a roll of duct tape in a carry-on bag. It can act as a band-aid, a luggage identifier, an impromptu wallet, it really is a general fix-all!
Next year I’m dying to go to London for the Olympics, to Venice, on a contemporary architecture tour of Barcelona, to Croatia, and really any destination our four teenage daughters propose.
