Il Ngwesi Lodge Text Size A A A
This Maasai ranch in northern Kenya was one of the first sustainable tourism projects in the country and is funded in part by the Kenyan Wildlife Service. In addition to conservation projects, the lodge works with the Maasai on education and cultural preservation. Guests stay in six thatched bandas with raised terraces. Two bandas have porches large enough to accommodate the double beds, which can be wheeled out for a night beneath the constellations. Water for the showers and the pool comes from a spring; electricity is solar generated. Activities include walking and Jeep safaris and Maasai visits. Rooms from $740, including meals, game drives and bush walks.
