Surfing at the Four Seasons Text Size A A A

May 27, 2007 at 01:32 PM

From Gardner Robinson, San Francisco, CA

“When my soon-to-be wife and I were planning our honeymoon, we looked at a number of resorts and hotels that fell under the headline – “Come Rest and Relax, and We’ll Take Care of Everything.” The Four Seasons has always provided just that, but the choice was obvious to me, as the Four Seasons Punta Mita offered surf lessons, which was something I had always wanted to do. We settled on Punta Mita, and I signed up for classes every morning. The surfing (for a beginner) was ideal, and the head instructor, an ex-nationally ranked surfer, was extremely knowledgeable and patient. Surprisingly, he got me up the first day, and by day nine, I felt very confident on the board and in the waves. Everything took place on a perfect little surf cove about a half mile down the beach from the hotel (see photo). Learning to surf was one of the most impressive and unexpected bonuses of our honeymoon. The Four Seasons always surpasses our expectations, but I can’t speak highly enough about how Punta Mita made our stay deeply memorable and unique. We’re returning for our fifth anniversary this year – this time I’m packing my board.”

Booking: Rooms from $375. (52) 329-291-6000; in U.S. 800-819-5053; www.fourseasons.com.

Getting there: Many U.S. cities fly direct to Puerta Vallerta, or have connections through Houston or Dallas. The resort is a forty-five-minute drive north of the airport, and the hotel will arrange for transfers.
