Provencal Tree Houses Text Size A A A
Think of it as one of those whimsical trends à la française: in recent years an increasing number of hotels in the south of France have added chic tree houses as somewhat lofty accommodation options for their guests. Even if you never had a tree house as a kid, you have to admit that spending the night close to the stars and waking to birdsong and a view of leafy branches is irresistibly romantic. Plus, these unique suites are far from rustic, offering such amenities as terraces, bathtubs, air-conditioning, room service and Internet access.
As long as you’re not afflicted with vertigo or prone to cabin fever, the French tree houses can be wonderfully relaxing two- or three-night getaways, especially if you take advantage of the surrounding Provençal countryside. The following four are located in Provence and on the Côte d’Azur: Orion, L’Hôtel les Ateliers de l’Image, Château de Creissauds and Château de Valmer & Résidences.
Bring some great books along. My suggestion: The Baron in the Trees, by Italo Calvino.
TIP: You will want to rent a car to explore the areas around these hotels.
