Finding Great Summer Rentals Text Size A A A
With summer just a few months away, we have been getting numerous requests for villas and houses to rent all over the world. There are several ways of finding your perfect match on Indagare, whether you’re looking for a hideaway on Kauai, a beach house on Nantucket or villa on Mallorca, even a gulet on the Turkish Riviera. Here are four tips to get you started:
1. Use the site
Indagare’s in-depth destination reports offer a wealth of information when it comes to villa rentals. Under the “Where to Stay” category, you will find entries called Living like a Local and Villas to Rent. Both feature reviews of that destination’s best rental options, as well as listings of agencies whose portfolios have been vetted by Indagare contributors. For instance, in the St. Barth’s report, you can read about the island’s top family options ; in the Marrakech report, you can find stylish, fully staffed retreats in the Palmeraie district; and in the New Zealand report, you can learn about the country’s premier agency for luxury homes for private parties.
2. Ask advice and start a discussion
Reach out to Indagare’s well-traveled community and post concerns, questions and comments under Ask Advice and on the Discussion Boards. In these sections, members have found recommendations for rentals in the Outer Hebrides, Brazil, Aspen and Deer Valley, among others, and had travel jitters mollified: a member’s recent question about the quality of apartment company Chez Vous in Paris was answered by a contributor who wrote: “I have stayed in (and written about) the Chez Vous apartments in Paris. They feel fresh, Parisian, and are very comfortable. Once you’ve stayed in one you’ll want to try all of them.”
3. Check the classifieds
The confidential classifieds, open only to the Indagare community, are a fantastic forum for offering housing exchanges and researching unique properties to rent. Some excerpts from recent postings: • “A beautiful Umbrian farmhouse, set amid five acres of olive groves, that has been featured in Architectural Digest and Saveur…still available for August and September.” • A friend has a family house [in Bermuda] with five-bedrooms overlooking the 18th hole of Mid Ocean golf course. It’s a short walk to the Tucker’s Point beach. He rarely rents it out but may be willing, depending on the season and the renter.” • “A woman of great taste has a private residence with five bedrooms in Bangkok that is available for rent. With access to a swimming pool and tennis courts, it is located on the riverfront and comes with a boat.” • “Looking to rent something special in Los Angeles? My house has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a sparkling solar-heated pool. It is luminous, flooded with light, and in an area that is full of design, art galleries, boutiques and restaurants including Mortons and Orso.” • Château Robert, an 18th-century hideaway located in Gascony, France, is now offering two rental packages. This 10-bedroom house, which sleeps 18, is surrounded by forty-five acres that contain a tennis court, heated swimming pool, herb garden and fishing pond.”
