Food/Wine: People: Culinary Pleasure in Italy
Culinary Pleasure in Italy
At the end of 2011, we quizzed members and staff about their favorite discoveries this year. Indagare member Larry Appel has a foodie’s dream experience in Italy. Read more Best-of-2011 Interviews.
My favorite trip was to Rome and Tuscany in May. We discovered new places in Tuscany and sampled wines for very small producers. Our five nights at Castiglion del Bosco (an Indagare recommendation) were delightful with great rooms, food and caring management. A fabulous new discovery was the Ristorante Settembrini (25 Via Luigi Settembrini, Rome,) a neighborhood restaurant in Rome which gave us a very warm greeting and deliciously inventive food. A great tip I learned this year was to not trust Italian car rental agencies, especially the Hertz affiliate! After we returned home we received a bill 40% higher than the quote.
On the agenda for next year, hopefully: South Africa and Bhutan.”
